LOVE WINS: IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL DAY FOR FOOTBALL

While standing on the sidelines replacing the defensive starters in closing seconds of yesterdays game an overwhelming thought was put on my heart: LOVE WINS!!
As each one of you came off the field and your eyes opened up and tears came streaming down your faces: LOVE WINS!!
As you hugged each other in sweat soaked, blood stained uniforms: LOVE WINS!!
As your family and friends came out of the stands and on to the field to congratulate and console you: LOVE WINS!!
The 2007 Fossil Ridge SaberCat Football team was HISTORICAL:
First winning season in school history
First ranked team in school history ( #6 in Colorado)
First playoff team in school history
First team to advance to the State Quarterfinals
All of these are outstanding achievements and reflection of hard work, talent and skill.
But NONE of these accomplishments would have been reached if you had not poured so much of your heart and souls into SaberCat Football.
Today it hurts, and it will for a while. But sometime down the road you will look back on the 2007 SaberCats with a huge smile. For you fellas ( especially the Senior Class) have laid the cornerstones for SaberCat Football to be built upon. Cornerstones of HARD WORK, DEDICATION, SACRIFICE, and most importantly LOVE.
Anyone who stood on the middle of that field as the sun disappeared behind the Rockies knows the story of the 2007 SaberCat Football Team: LOVE WON!!
Thanks fellas it was a honor to Coach you this season.

THE LAW OF VICTORY

There are three components to the "Law of Victory" :

1. UNITY OF VISION: We all must have one common goal. VICTORY!! A team does not win championships if its players have different agendas.

2. DIVERSITY OF SKILLS: You all bring something special to the dynamic of the team. Don't sell your teammates short by not giving all you have.

3. DEDICATED TO VICTORY AND RAISING THE OTHER PLAYERS TO REACH THEIR POTENTIAL: It is your responsibility to bring out the best in your teammates.

( JUST AS IRON SHARPENS IRON, SO DOES ONE MAN SHARPEN ANOTHER)

These are the components that we must bring everyday to the field, locker room and classroom.

KEEP PAYING THE PRICE BECAUSE CHAMPIONS ALWAYS PAY THE PRICE!!

Coach Lefort

HUGE SABERCAT THANK YOU

Thank you to the Hitchcocks who so graciously opened up their home for another of their famous pre game meals. Along with the Hitchcocks, the Salisburys and the Krapes families were also represented with pitching in to make a great pre game dinner. The fellas munched on some cooked out burgers and dogs, along with some of those famous homemade chocolate covered peanut butter rice crispy treats that the OLine just LOVES. Thanks so much for making Fossil Ridge Football the Family that it is.

Thanks so much!!

ONE PLAY AT A TIME, ONE GAME AT A TIME

This week the road becomes our home as we travel into the Hornets Nest to face the Pueblo County Hornets. The #3 ranked team in Colorado is tough, well coached. They have been a perennial title contender, (advancing to the 2006 State Championship Game). This week of practice will require your undivided focus to the details. For it will be our commitment to the execution of those details that will lead us into battle with a team like the Hornets. The Hornets will be the greatest challenge we have faced to date. On the field, in the classroom and at home we must prepare to play the best game we have ever played. Here's to a great week of practice!!!!

Coach Lefort

EVERY SECOND COUNTS

In playoff football every snap can be the difference between elimination and a CHAMPIONSHIP and yesterday afternoon was no exception. But you fellas stood strong in the face of the Sailors challenge and propelled yourselves on to the next step on our journey. Congratulations guys on the playoff victory. Make no doubt, you need to know that you were part an outstanding playoff football game. THAT FELLAS IS PLAYOFF FOOTBALL. Every team you play is a great team with lots of heart or they would not still be in the hunt for the CHAMPIONSHIP. Congratulations!!!! ON TO PUEBLO!!

STEAMBOAT SETS SAIL FOR SATURDAY SABERCAT SHOWDOWN

Your hard work has paid dividends and given us the opportunity to take the field in search of a Championship. Steamboat Springs is an outstanding team with lots of playoff experience. The Sailors are lead by All-State kicker Ben DeLine, who comes from an prominent family of quality football players. The Sailors will bring the one of the best teams the state has to offer to French Field. It will take your best efforts in practice this week to prepare ourselves for the match up.

Through HARD WORK, PERSISTENCE, LEADERSHIP and PERSEVERANCE they led this program to where it is today. It has been my privilege to coach such an outstanding group of young men. THANK YOU SENIORS!!!

LETTER FROM MONTROSE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR

We always want to represent ourselves and our school by conducting our actions in such a way that the people that we come into contact with will recognize Fossil Ridge Football as a first class organization. This is a letter from the Athletic Director at Montrose that was sent to Fossil Ridge Athletic Director Andrea Tribelhorn :

Andrea:

As you know, we handed out a sack lunch to your football players after our game last Friday. My wife and I were the ones that did this. I just wanted to let you know that my wife and I were VERY impressed with your football players. It has been a long time since either of us has been around a group of young men who were ALL so polite and so mature. Each and every player thanked us at least once and I have never been called “sir” so many times on one occasion. Again, all your players were very well mannered, thankful, and highly respectful. You, your coaches, and your school must be very proud of them. I am sure this is a reflection of your coaching staff. They, like the players, acted the same way. Although the locker room situation was not exactly perfect, they never complained and were very respectful. While handing out the lunches, one of the assistant coaches talked to my 4th grade son for several minutes. I commend them on their behavior as well as the behavior of their team. It was great to host this game. I wish them the best of luck for the rest of the season.

Lyle Wright
Assistant Principal/Activities Director
Montrose High School

This kind of feedback is very appreciated from the Coaching Staff. We are blessed to work with such outstanding young men who are committed to carrying themselves in such a way that they make this kind of an impression on the people they encounter.
Awesome job fellas!!! Keep treating people the right way. We are very proud of you.

FACING OUR GIANTS

We have overcome many of our "Giants" so far this season, and this week will present us with another opportunity break through a couple more walls. First, a win this week and we will clinch the first winning season in school history. Secondly and most important we will secure a spot in the playoffs with a victory. Berthoud is riding a two year regular season undefeated streak and has a championship caliber squad. It will take our best efforts on the practice field and in the classrooms to prepare ourselves for what the Spartans will bring on to the turf Friday night.

KEEP PAYING THE PRICE, BECAUSE CHAMPIONS ALWAYS PAY THE PRICE.

BIG TIME WIN AT MONTROSE

You battled a tough, excellent coached, perennial State playoff contender on enemy turf and prevailed with the victory. You proved to yourself and anyone who follows football in Colorado that you can play with the best and win. Congratulations!! You were able to stand toe to toe and answer each charge that the Indians threw at you. With each win comes new and exciting challenges, and we must prepare to meet and exceed them.

GREAT WIN!!!!

As a Coach I was very proud of what the SaberCats brought to the field last night, but I was most proud of the way you conducted yourselves throughout the whole trip. The fact that the hotel manger took the time to come on our bus and complement you by saying "That this was the best group of kids they had ever have stay with them" is huge. We are a first class football program and we always want to represent ourselves in that manner.

VALLEY VIKINGS SAIL INTO TOWN FRIDAY

Another big challenge awaits us in the form of the Valley Vikings this week. They are tough and talented team that will be bringing their best to Fort Collins Friday night. Enjoy all the festivities that this Homecoming Week will bring. The bonfire, the pep rallies and the dance, but remember that the whole week is dependent upon what goes on the field Friday night. A win Friday night and Saturday will be a blast, a loss and it will be hard to hit the dance floor with the gut punch delivered by the Vikings. Capture the moments this week, but pay attention to the details of what needs to be done (Practice your very best EVERY DAY , do your HOMEWORK take care of your grades, be great sons, friends and teammates). Lets Have a GREAT WEEK OF PRACTICE.

Coach Lefort

SECOND HALF POWER SURGE

Remember "Its is not how we start, but how we FINISH" and Thursday night was another prime example. This time however it was our turn to put on a POWER SURGE in the second half. Great job fellas of keeping your chins up through adversity, keeping your eye on the goal and fighting for a key conference victory against a game Silver Creek Raptor squad. This week we need to put together a complete game in which all three phases (offense, defense and special teams) are clicking from the time we get off the bus. If we do that, I like our chances against anybody. KEEP PAYING THE PRICE, BECAUSE CHAMPIONS ALWAYS PAY THE PRICE.

GREAT WIN FELLAS!

TOUGH LOSS VS MUSTANGS

Last Thursday night was a tough loss at the hands of the Fort Morgan Mustangs. Fort Morgan is a tough, big and physical team and they made the plays in the forth quarter to take home the victory. They are an excellent team and will have a great season. The SaberCats fought hard but we did not put together a complete game effort that it takes to win against a tough conference foe. Lets have a great week of practice getting ready for Silver Creek.

HUGE GAME ON THURSDAY

With winning brings the excitement of the next challenge, and this week it is Fort Morgan. I have studied the Mustangs play from their first three games and they are a team that will line up and come right at you and challenge you to beat them. They will not back down from anyone and should be 3-0 coming to Fort Collins. It will be another physically, mentally and emotionally challenging game come Thursday night. Take this week to take care of your studies and your bodies.

WOW!! WHAT A WIN

During practice this week we talked about "DOING WHAT EVER IT TAKES TO WIN" and last night that motto was put to the test. Many times we had the chance to give up or stay on the ground, but every time you had a chance to stay down you picked yourselves up . You believed that you and your teammates were NOT GOING TO BE DENIED the victory, NO MATTER WHAT.
As a Coach I am so proud of the effort, toughness and teamwork that was displayed on the field in Frederick Friday night.

UPON FURTHER REVIEW:

- Zane and Teeps are a couple of tough hombres

HARD FOUGHT WIN IN CONFERENCE OPENER

Congratulations! Thursday nights win over Sterling was a great way to kick off Tri-Valley Conference play. SABERCAT THANK YOU/ HELP WANTED

A big SaberCat thank you goes out to the Carrells, Hitchcocks and the Salisburys for hosting the first pre-game meal. The team feasted on a Mexican themed menu of tacos and nachos and then retreated to the rec room for some lively games of billiards. The team and the coaching staff greatly appreciate all the hard work put into these fun get togethers.

LEAVING FOSSIL AT 2

The buses will be leaving Fossil Ridge at 2pm on August 30th for the game at Rock Canyon.

GAME TIME IS HERE

Over the next 48 hours you should focus on what you need to do as an individual to help the team achieve our goal of a victory at Rock Canyon. Remember that Rock Canyon came up to French Field and took home a victory last year to kickoff the season. You must look to return the favor to the Jaguars on their home field of Shea Stadium. The Jaguars are a quality team( 7-3) last season and will find them selves in the hunt for the Central Metro League title by the end of the season. It will take a great team effort from everyone who dawns the Green, Silver and Black to bring home a victory Thursday evening. DIAL IT IN.

STEPPING UP vs MONARCH

The effort and attitude on the field Friday was tremendous. We learned that we can play with an outstanding team like Monarch High School. We went toe to toe with as good as program as Fossil Ridge has ever met on the football field. SABERCATS VS COYOTES

Congratulations on a successful Two a Days camp. It is now time to begin the fun part for everyone, players, coaches and fans.
The scrimmage games give the coaches a chance to see how players perform under the pressure of a game like situation. Some players have stood out and made huge impressions based on their performances in these games, and tomorrow will be no different.
Monarch High has one of the top programs in the state and will definitely bring an excellent team to SaberCat Field. Prepare yourself mentally and physically and have a great time Friday night.

SABERCAT THANK YOU

A SaberCat thank you goes out to our friends from Timberline Church. In particular to Jason and Reza for providing the watermelon feed for the team last night. Its hard to beat cold watermelon on a hot "two a days" afternoon.
We would also like to thank Mike Rushing for taking the players pictures for the game programs and the proud parent buttons.
Thanks Guys!!
Coach Lefort

ATTITUDE AND EFFORT

The attitude and effort from all of the players has been tremendous throughout the first few days of camp, and the Coaching Staff greatly appreciates that. These are the key factors in progressing forward as a team. Assignments, techniques, conditioning and intensity need to be continually solidified and improved with each and every rep on the practice field. Make sure your equipment is correctly fitted and ready to go for contact. We have the best equipment available, but you have to have it fitted correctly.

EXCELLENT ADDITIONS TO COACHING STAFF

Coach Fick ( a two time Colorado High School Coach of the Year), has added three new coaches at the Varsity level.

Coach Van, who will work with the Offensive Line brings over 40 years of coaching experience.
He has won multiple State Championship at Longmont, has coached 5 NFL players and has been selected as a coach in the All-State games.
Dave Whitworth, (Coach Whit) brings over 30 years of coaching experience and was Coach Fick's Defensive Coordinator at Thompson Valley leading the Eagles to the State Semi-Finals in 2005.
Parker Wildeman, an All-Big Ten performer at The University of Iowa and team MVP in 1994. He has held various collegiate coaching positions and is a defensive line specialist.
The returning Varsity coaches are Steve Vecchio, Mike Romero and myself.
Fossil Ridge is blessed with and outstanding group of coaches and I know I will learn as much from them as I hope the team does.

LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED

Two a days have arrived and it is time to kickoff the 2007 edition of SaberCat Football. You have made the off-season commitments and seen the hard work pay off in the weight room and on the field. Now it is time to have it all come together over the next two weeks in preparation for Rock Canyon, and the rest of the schedule that lies ahead of us this fall.
This season promises to be an exciting one for SaberCat football but we need to stay focused on the goals and what it will take to get there. We will need you to prepare yourself mentally, physically and emotionally for the what lies ahead. You need to study your playbooks, know your assignments, and provide your bodies with the proper rest and nutrition. Your complete focus must be on what you need do to help SaberCat Football have an outstanding season. Have a great camp.
Coach Lefort

REST IS AN ESSENTIAL PART OF THE PROGRAM

I hope that everyone had a restful and enjoyable week away from the campus. It is imperative to provide our minds and bodies with the proper amount of rest so that they are able to perform at the levels that we are going to need them to during the next few weeks. My family and I had the
opportunity to spend a couple of weeks in some of the most beautiful places on Earth. They are all right here in our home state of Colorado. We are truly blessed to live in such an awesome place.
We spent some time in Breckenridge, Vail and Beaver Creek, all amazing places.
I also spent a little quality time in the rivers with a few of my friends, Bows and Browns.

SATURDAY SCRIMMAGE

The effort on the field through the first week has been outstanding. It will take a continual commitment to excellence for SaberCat Football to reach the goals that we all want. Saturday's scrimmage is where all the things that have been drilled and practiced need to come together. It is an opportunity for each one of you to stake your claim for playing time during the regular season. The coaching staff is always looking for players to "Show us what you got." Mentaly prepare your self as if your are going into a regular season game. Know your assignments, play with emotion and passion and encourage your teammates. If you do this then we will start taking the steps as a team we need to take to prepare for Rock Canyon. Have a great scrimmage.

STRONG FIRST DAY

Outstanding first day of Camp. The effort on the field was excellent. You must continue to build on that effort with each and every rep that you take on the practice field. Important: Make sure you bring enough liquids for proper hydration during Camp. Nutrition, hydration and proper rest will be essential for you to perform your best for the remainder of Camp.

HAVE A THANKFUL AND SAFE FOURTH

It is because of the many outstanding men and women that have served our country that we are blessed with the opportunity to live with the freedoms that we in enjoy in the United States today. Have a wonderful time celebrating our country's birthday. Enjoy the time with family, the fireworks and of course the Bar-B-Que. Also take some time to reflect on who and what that has enabled us to live in the greatest country the world has ever known.
Have an awesome Independence Day,

BE READY TO COMPETE

Anytime you have the opportunity to take the field against another football team you must be ready to compete. There will be many outstanding programs in the tournament today and they will be anticipating playing well. You must respect your opponent, yet at the same time possess the confidence in your abilities as a football player. Know your assignments, be aggressive and have fun. Each time you put on the Green and Black you are representing your team and your school and today will be no different.
Reminder: bring lots of liquids to drink, it will around 100 degrees on the turf this afternoon and your body will need to be hydrated.
Have a great day.

Press on toward the goal

As we enter the Summer season we need to continue to "Press on toward the goal, and claim the prize". During our workouts it will take a Champions effort to be where we want to be by the season opener at Rock Canyon. Championship football teams are built on the sweat left on the fields and in the weight rooms in June, July and August.
Have a great weekend,
